EU heads of state and government gather in Brussels for a council meeting, heading the agenda are talks on the multiannual financial framework.

Following the summit, EU council president Herman Van Rompuy and commission president José Manuel Barroso hold a joint press conference.

Later, Barroso holds separate talks with Dutch prime minister Mark Rutte and Swedish prime minister Fredrik Reinfeldt.

Parliament president Martin Schulz meets Cypriot president Níkos Anastasiadis in Brussels.
