Green hijackers

The Guardian is reporting that Europe's carbon-trading website found itself hijacked by green-hatted hackers over the weekend.

Ticker data on the European climate exchange (ECX.eu) website was replaced by a homepage detailing flaws in the system for some 22 hours.

The spoof site detailed a "Super promo - climate on sale: Guaranteed profit!", and, explaining the "carbon trade scam", exposed how the system helped make profit for "big industry polluters, investors in fraudulent offset projects [and] opportunist traders".

The activists announced their work via online discussion groups, saying, "In a public act of digital direct action, the ECX website was taken offline and replaced with our message in an effort to try to raise awareness about carbon trading as a dangerous false solution to the climate crisis."
