Europe's ambition to significantly reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 2020 will be a key test for the EU's energy and environmental policies. Moreover, member states will be encouraged to implement a wide range of innovative strategies to improve resource efficiency, reduce energy consumption, increase the use of renewable energy sources and develop a low carbon economy for Europe.
What then is the current state of play? What Europe-wide strategies are currently being implemented, and what further strategies and policies need to be put in place to achieve these ambitious goals and how does the Polish Presidency intend to contribute to achieving these goals?
The Parliament Magazine in partnership with Plastics Europe held a panel discussion hosted by Boguslaw Sonik MEP on the progress EU member states have made and the role that plastics can play in achieving a substantial reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. The event was organised on the occasion of the Polish EU Council Presidency.
