Today in the EU
Education, training, culture and youth commissioner Ján Figel, will today launch the communication campaign for the European Year of Creativity and Innovation 2009 with the slogan "Imagine-Create-Innovate".
Creative thinker Edward de Bono, and other “ambassadors” for the year will join Commissioner Figel' at today’s press conference launching the year.
Health commissioner Androulla Vassiliou will today join health ministers from the G7 countries and Mexico in Brussels for the 9th ministerial meeting of the Global Health Security Initiative (GHSI).
Irish prime minister Brian Cowen visits Brussels today for talks with commission president José Manuel Barroso. Cowen is expected to tell Barroso that Irish plans on a ‘roadmap’ towards ratifying the Lisbon Treaty will not be ready in time for next week’s EU summit.
The commission will today publish its 8th report on the practical preparations for the future enlargement of the euro area.
The report will pay particular attention to the final preparations for the changeover in Slovakia, in particular the introduction of euro cash into the economy, the preparation of the private sector and of the public at large.
The European parliament’s Conference of Presidents visits the Czech Republic today for a meeting with president Václav Klaus to discuss the upcoming Czech EU presidency.
