Today in the EU
Justice, freedom and security commissioner Jacques Barrot makes a statement in Brussels on the right of EU citizens and their families to move and reside freely within the EU, as the commission adopts guidelines which aim to assist member states understand and effectively guarantee these rights.
Following its earlier communication on 'A Shared Commitment for Employment', the commission will today propose a new EU microfinance facility for employment, which aims to open the way to entrepreneurship for people who wish to start up their own business having become unemployed. Employment, social affairs and equal opportunities commissioner Vladimír Špidla will make a statement on the facility.
The directors-general for fisheries meet in Ronneby to discuss sustainability and profitability in the future fisheries policy, which is set to be established in 2012.
Peter Hudson, commander of the operation EU NAVFOR-ATALANTA (anti-piracy manoeuvres in Somalia) visits EU high representative Javier Solana in Brussels.
