Today in the EU
The Swedish EU presidency begins today, with a joint meeting between the presidency and commission taking place in Stockholm. The meeting will be followed by a press conference by Swedish prime minister Fredrik Reinfeldt and commission president José Manuel Barroso.
The EU's new roaming regulations enter into force today, cutting the roaming cost of SMS, calls and data downloads by up to 60 per cent.
Shops are allowed to sell 'wonky' fruit and vegetables again, with the commission removing specific marketing standards governing the size and shape of 26 types of fruit and vegetables, which come into effect today.
Guy Verhofstadt, newly elected leader of parliament's ALDE group, holds a press conference on his ambitions for the group in the forthcoming legislature and the outcome of discussions on the candidature of José Manuel Barroso for a second term as commission president.
Helmuth Markov and Willy Meyer from the GUE/NGL group hold a press conference on the situation in Honduras.

• Sweden assumes the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
• The full Commission is to travel to Stockholm for a meeting with the Swedish government to prepare the ground for Sweden’s occupancy of the Council Presidency starting today. The visit marks the start of the Presidency thus being its first major event.
