UK picks logo for EU presidency
The British Government has unveiled a logo for its six month EU presidency beginning in July.
The design features a flock of flying swans in V-formation, with a text in yellow saying: “UK Presidency of the EU 2005.”
From July to December the swans will be closely identified with the UK's position at the EU helm, printed on everything from bill boards, the official presidency website to stationary and umbrellas.
"This identity programme elegantly marks Britain's leadership of the EU whilst also symbolising European nations working together effectively for a better future", said UK Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, Patricia Hewitt.
The UK government will be hoping that Britain’s high profile position as holder of the EU presidency will boost support amongst the British public for a yes vote on the EU constitution.
A referendum on the treaty is expected in 2006.
