Southwark Council is centrally located south of the riverThames, immediately opposite the City of and (both boroughs). Thepopulation of the borough stands at 253,800 and has increased overthe last 20 years, reflecting Southwark?s inclusion in theinner-London renaissance, its relatively high birth rate and inwardmigration. It therefore has a relatively young population that isrich in ethnic and cultural diversity.

Key corporate priorities for Southwark include

The economic development and strategic partnerships unit, withits partners in the Local Strategic Partnership, develops andmanages the implementation of the Employment and EnterpriseStrategies for the borough. The unit works closely with local,regional, national and European regeneration partnerships todeliver training and enterprise support.

Within Southwark Council and the regeneration and neighbourhoodsdepartment there are a range of European funded projects where weare either the lead body or a partner to others. Currently we arepresenting a European Social Funded project on construction andwomen in employment.
