The European Commission has given the green light to Saint-Gobain’s €686 million acquisition of Scandinavian plumbing giants Dahl International.

Dahl International has an operation of 260 outlets in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland, Poland and Estonia with sales of €1.4 billion in 2003.

The deal allows construction group Saint-Gobain - through brand names such as Point.P, Jewson, Raab Karcher, Lapeyre and La Plateforme du Batiment - to set up operations in five new countries.

Its main current services are in France and the United Kingdom.

The deal was cleared under the EU’s ‘fast-track’ merger procedure, where tie-ups are approved automatically if no third-party complaint is received within a month of notification to Brussels’ competition authorities.
