Retail trade in the eurozone was up 0.9 per cent in March from last year's figures according to latest data from the European Commission.

In the EU as a whole, including the ten new member states, sales rose 2.6 per cent.

Compared to February however, sales fell 0.2 per cent in the eurozone and rose only 0.1 per cent across the 25 member states.

The UK, Sweden, Spain and France saw the highest increases in retail sales during March, whilst Germany was the only country to see a drop.
