Eurozone retail up 0.5 per cent on 2003

Retail trade rose 0.5 per cent in the eurozone in February compared to February 2003, the European Commission announced on Monday.

In the European Union as a whole sales rose 2.0 per cent.

Sweden, the UK and Spain saw the largest retail increases while the Netherlands and Germany both posted a fall in sales.

Overall, food, drinks and tobacco increased 0.6 per cent in the eurozone (1.4 per cent in the EU15) and the non-food sector rose 0.2 per cent (2.3 per cent in the EU15).
