A disagreement over who chairs the hot seat for one of parliament’s most influential committees has been settled.

It paves the way for Jacek Saryusz-Wolski, a senior Polish EPP-ED member, to be formally confirmed as chairman of the foreign affairs committee later today.

The choice of chairman had been subject to speculation, with fellow Polish deputy Bogdan Klich said by some to have been a possible candidate.

Both Saryusz-Wolski and Klich are members of the Civic Platform and, following a meeting in Warsaw last Friday, the party's leaders have plumped for Saryusz-Wolski, a former Polish economic affairs minister.

Under the D’Hondt system, the 14-strong Polish delegation in the EPP-ED group was entitled to make a nomination for the foreign affairs committee, formerly chaired by German MEP Elmar Brok.

"Saryusz-Wolski is our nomination. It is a done deal,” an EPP source said.
