The Romanian Parliament has unanimously approved EU entry for 2007.
All 434 members of the Bucharest assembly approved an EU accession treaty on Tuesday May 17.
Romania is not obliged to hold a referendum on the matter.
"The ratification of the treaty is a turning-point in Romania's political history", said Romanian Prime Minister Calin Tariceanu.
Romania should join the EU on January 1 2007, but could face a delay of 12 months if Bucharest fails to make the grade on reform commitments.
Tariceanu pledged to "launch the necessary reforms to make the EU integration possible, respecting Brussels' calendar and not yield to pressures of any kind".
