EU presents 'green' budget for 2009
The European commission will spend more than 10 per centof its 2009 budget on 'green' policies, Les Echosreports.
Some €14bn will be spent on the energy and climate changemeasures announced in February, with a further €2.3bn set aside forrenewable energies and energy efficiency.
The Lisbon agenda for jobs and growth remains the biggest budgetheading for 2009, accounting for €60.1bn or 44.7 per cent of thetotal budget, ahead of agriculture with €57.7bn or 42.8 percent.
Security and immigration, meanwhile, will get just €1.5bn -although this is an eight per cent increase on 2003 levels - andthe paper notes that parliament, which must approve the budget, islikely to call for more cash for this heading.
