European telecoms companies speak out against new proposals

Deutsche Telekom, France Télécom and other large phone companies said Tuesday that an EU plan that could require them to open their networks to competitors would deter investment in new high-speed networks, reports the IHT.

The proposals, if they become law, would allow regulators in the EU to separate the high-speed networks and telephone services of large phone companies into invidiual units, a measure known as "functional separation."
