EU politicians courted by Gazprom for top jobs

Russian energy giant Gazprom is reportedly courting EU politicians in a bid to push its way deeper into the European market, says the New York Times.

According to the paper, outgoing Italian premier Romano Prodi turned down an offer from the company to become chairman of the South Stream natural gas pipeline, which, once completed, will have the capacity for about one trillion cubic feet of natural gas a year.

Meanwhile, the Guardian reports that Greece and Russia will sign a deal on the pipeline this week, when Russian president Vladimir Putin meets with his Greek counterpart Costas Karamanlis.
