French MPs still divided over Turkey's EU bid
Moves to impose an obligatory referendum on Turkey’s future EU membership continue to divide the French parliament, Libération reports.
An amendment passed by the lower house that would impose such a move was quashed by the upper house last week – but it could be reinstated at the second reading.
The government, which does not believe an obligatory referendum is necessary, must now find a means of reaching a compromise ahead of a 21 July deadline.
