Poland and Sweden propose closer EU ties with eastern neighbours

In the light of French plans for new EU ties with countries to the south, Poland and Sweden have presented rival proposals to focus more political effort on eastern neighbours, including Ukraine, reports the IHT.

Under the Polish-Swedish plan, the EU would develop closer ties with Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, which would include negotiations over visa-free travel deals and free trade zones for services and agricultural products, as well as the promotion of regulatory overhauls
