EU biofuels target under fire
EU environment commissioner Stavros Dimas said on Tuesday that social concerns such as food prices must be taken into account in the use of biofuels, reports the Guardian. The paper says that although he reaffirmed member states’ commitments to producing 10 per cent of road transport fuel from crops by 2020, he qualified it by saying that there must be conditions on the target.
Meanwhile, the IHT reports on advice given by experts to the European environment agency, which calls for a suspension of the EU’s 10 per cent target.
