Dashing Dane Fogh Rasmussen now favourite for "Mr Europe" job
The Times says a dashing Dane with his own Facebook page hasemerged as the favourite to thwart the ambitions of Bertie Ahernand Tony Blair of becoming the first “president of Europe”.
Anders Fogh Rasmussen, the Liberal prime minister of Denmark since2001, has been described by Silvio Berlusconi, the prime ministerof Italy, as Europe's best-looking leader.
Meanwhile, the paper also says that Ahern steps down today asTaoiseach of the Republic of Ireland in the first stage of a powershift on both sides of the island's border.
It says Ahern has been forced to resign early because of questionsover his personal financial affairs. He begins his final day inoffice with a meeting with his northern counterpart, Ian Paisley,the First Minister.
