According to the Irish Times, member states are set to intensify efforts to coordinate their relief operations in Haiti.

The paper says they have pledged to send hundreds of personnel, including armed police, to boost the UN's security mission in the disaster-stricken country.

The news follows last week's talks between new EU foreign policy chief, Catherine Ashton, US secretary of state Hillary Clinton and UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon.

Haiti is set to dominate a meeting of EU foreign ministers today, the first to be chaired by Ashton.
