EU to give excess farming money to developing world
Agriculture chief Mariann Fischer Boel and development commissioner Louis Michel are reportedly ready to give €1bn in unused agricultural subsidies to farmers in the developing world to fight food shortages, says the FT.
Fischer Boel made the announcement on Thursday, says the paper, and explained that the commission would agree the plan next week. She reportedly said she was confident the plan would overcome opposition from member states’ farm ministers.
