Sarkozy sends peacemakers to China as protests continue

French president Nicolas Sarkozy has sent a delegation led by former prime minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin to China amid escalating protests against French companies, Le Figaro reports.

The protests in Paris during the passage of the Olympic flame two weeks ago have sparked retaliations against French firms in China, notably the Carrefour supermarket group.

Sarkozy has called for a return to more amicable diplomatic relations between the two countries, but has repeated his suggestion that Beijing begin talks with the Dalai Lama over the future of Tibet.
