Sarkozy to attend opening ceremony for Olympic games in China
French president Nicolas Sarkozy will attend the Beijing Olympics' opening ceremony next month, putting an end to his threat to boycott the occasion, reports the Guardian.
Chinese president Hu Jintao was told by the French president’s office on Wednesday that Sarkozy would attend the ceremony in August.
Sarkozy had a half-hour interview with Hu Jintao in a hotel in the north of Japan, which Sarkozy's officials said went very well, reports Le Monde.
The French newspaper adds that no mention of the situation in Tibet was made in the press release from the Elysée.
