Serbian parliament ratifies EU deal
Europe’s press report today on Serbia’s parliamentary ratification of a pre-membership agreement with the EU on Tuesday.
The IHT reports on Serbian prime minister Mirko Cvetkovic who said that the ratification of the accord with the EU represented a big step toward integration into the bloc and a better life for Serbian citizens.
The Guardian reports that agreement had been blocked for a number of years because of Serbia's failure to arrest top war crimes suspects sought by a UN war crimes court.
But the paper adds, the capture in July of former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic has been a major boost for Serbia's EU membership bid.
