Council of Europe slams France over judges
The Council of Europe has criticised France’s justice system after a lengthy review of the judiciary across the EU, Le Figaro reports.
In 2006, just 14 judges were disciplined in France, compared to 66 in Italy or 41 in Portugal, putting France in last place among the 27 EU countries.
This is a worrying sign of a lack of responsibility on the part of the French judiciary, according to the Council of Europe, with little or no recourse available against judges considered to be failing in their duty by working too slowly or acting inappropriately in court, for example.
