EU countries offer to develop new force to fight pirates
At least eight EU member states offered Wednesday to form a new force to help protect shipping in the increasingly dangerous waters off Somalia, reports the IHT.
A UN security council resolution in June gave permission for countries to send warships into Somalia's territorial waters to stop "piracy and armed robbery at sea", as long as these operations were taken in cooperation with the weak Somali government.
