EU laments lack of English translators in institutions
EU language chief Leonard Orban has lamented the lack of fluent English speakers in Brussels who can acts as translators, says Deutsche Welle.
The Romanian commissioner was speaking on Thursday after admitting that although more and more people in the EU are learning English, few are reaching a high enough level to work for the European institutions as interpreters.
The website quotes him as saying, “The increasing lack of English interpreters ... is an issue the commission is trying to solve, especially by promoting learning foreign languages through lifelong learning.”
