EU trade chief calls for improved China relations

Peter Mandelson has attacked calls for a boycott of the Olympics or their opening ceremony and said the west should work with China rather than against it, reports the Daily Telegraph.

The paper says the EU trade commissioner said it would not serve the people of either Europe or China to be confrontational in dealing with issues such as Tibet.

He was speaking to the China-Britain Business Council in London amid a growing backlash within China and overseas communities against Western sympathy for Tibet.
