Spain expected to announce new bank reforms

The Spanish government is expected to announce plans to clean up its banking system today, BBC News reports.

The broadcaster says it is likely banks will be forced to set aside an estimated €30bn to cover the cost of bad loans.

The meeting is also expected to approve a plan to put bad property loans into separate companies.

The BBC says the government has already forced banks to make provisions of €54bn to cover bad loans.
